More Shelter Faces.....

Those of you who have followed my blog know that I used to be a volunteer for ONE of MANY small town animal shelters. That was over three years ago.  My husband and I would go to the shelter every week and photograph all the new, adoptable dogs ,and then post them on the petfinder.com website hoping to get maybe just one of them adopted.

We have since moved to a new home, in a new town, in a new state, but I have not been able to rid my mind of all the very loving, very needy, very adoptable dogs that we met,  if ever so briefly.  I do not know exactly how many of these less-than-fortunate pups found homes.  I know that the adoption rate in that community was not very good.  But to make a long story as short as possible, I still have not been able to delete their very hopeful faces from my computer files.  I have thousands of photos and thousands of faces...all with that "please take me home" look.  This may be the least I can do in their memory.... to post their pleas.

Too many good dogs...
not enough good people!

Please spay or neuter your pets!

Please adopt, don't shop!

  1. Great post MJ! So many great dogs and cats in need. If only everyone would spay and neuter.

  2. That had to be one of the hardest things on your heart. I wouldn't be able to delete their photos either.

Today I'm writing an article for my local, rural publication on our only organization in the county that is helping stray and unwanted dogs and cats. They've been going for about a year now and are applying for their 501c3 non-profit. They're working with our vet office (we only have one of them too) and taking the unwanted, adoptable dogs and cats. They then find foster homes, shelters or forever homes for them. They're really a God send here...prior to that the poor souls were PTS. Now they have a chance!

  3. I'm glad you didn't delete their photo. You may get one person who sees this post and decides to adopt or become a shelter volunteer. Sweet dogs they all are.

  4. I'd have probably wanted to take each one home, I'm a sucker for that look.

I've seen a puppy mill first hand, and it is not a pretty sight.

I'm very pleased that you remind everyone as often as possible about this.
